A Skate Park For Ramsey
A Skate Park for Ramsey – the build begins…
As many of you know there has been a wish for a skate park in Ramsey for many years. The Ramsey Million Partnership, Ramsey Neighbourhoods Trust and Ramsey Town Council have worked together to make the dream a reality. The initial site opposite Tesco petrol station fell through due to the need for an attenuation basin (drainage pond) for the new housing at North Station Close, to ensure the area wouldn't suffer from flood risk. We then moved our plans to a site across the road, close to where the new Lidl will be sited. We have been waiting patiently for around three years for the roadway to go in, and the land to be handed to Ramsey Town Council – unfortunately, that wait goes on. The Council had to think things through after hearing that the last of the funding from the Ramsey Million was at risk unless things moved forward in 2025. It was essential that the funds were spent by September. During the February meeting Councillors voted to allow the skate park to be built on QEII Playing Field, off Mill Lane. This site is owned and managed by the Town Council, and the skate park can be positioned here as permitted development (as it meets certain regulations). We would like to thank Jason Emery, from Let's Go Skate, and the young people he works with for their input into the design, supporting the company who won the tender to build our skate park – CANVAS Spaces Ltd. After such a long wait, we're delighted to inform you that the ground works for the build will begin this week, 17th March. We're anticipating completion in time for the August Summer Holidays, and are planning a launch event to celebrate. More details on that as things progress.
